Throughout the summer of 2020, in association with the Digital Cultural Department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, {CORRESPONDANCES DIGITALES] collaborated to write various columns on innovative uses of New Aquitaine’s heritage and historical sites.

These chronicles were inspired by digital projects carried out by cultural players in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the fruit of exemplary investment and territorial leadership. Each of these projects has been analyzed to see how digital technology can :

  • help visitors to (re)discover a region’s heritage through active intellectual participation, as well as through more sensitive and sensory forms of involvement;
  • enrich professional practices in the heritage sector, not only in terms of mediation and education, but also research and scientific documentation.
  • However, the analysis of these different projects also served to remind us that the choice of digital technology is only relevant :
  • easy to access and use;
  • if it complements and is integrated into a wealth of human, material and sensitive mediations that guarantee access to as many people as possible;
  • if it is rich in meaning and experience, in the service of a place and its heritage, both tangible and intangible;
  • if it is truly taken in hand by both the public and the venue’s professionals…

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the professionals with whom I’ve spoken, both academics and heritage professionals, as well as the Digital Culture Department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, for their confidence in this project.
